WELCOME TO YAKUTAT
Yakutat Bay has an 18 mile wide reef moraine across the mouth creating some of the best natural fishing structure on the whole coast. The fishing grounds are only minutes out of the harbor targeting Halibut, Ling Cod, King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Red Snapper, Black Bass, numerous rock fish and of course the infamous Sand Shark! Whether it is a saltwater fishing trip of a lifetime or simply enjoying the scenic splendor in and around Yakutat and Disenchantment Bay, YAKUTAT CHARTER will deliver memories of Yakutat to cherish forever.
World Class Halibut Fishing
Although Yakutat saltwater fishing is well known as a productive ocean destination it is lesser know, that it Has the LARGEST AVERAGE IN THE STATE FOR CHARTER HALIBUT LANDINGS (statistics by Alaska Fish and Game) From Year to Year 1st or 2nd WE capture the States largest average charter catch period. Little known trivia but NOT TRIVIAL when planning a trip or location to visit.
With the fishing grounds close to the harbor (20 – 40 min. boat run) and abundance of reef structure, short trips and good catches are common. The Yakutat fishing grounds are typically fished in the 80 – 180 ft (or less) depths, and often on the outside coastal waters. Usually light to minimal current allows for set-ups using 24 – 32 oz. weights. As a result, fishing retreivals are simpler and not as punishing an event as in some other deep water fishing ports.
Fresh Water Opportunities Abound!
With 2 commercial airplanes arriving daily, many of our clients easily come here to ALSO fish the famous Situk (see-tuk) River, known world-wide for its famous Steelhead, King Salmon, Sockeye, Pink, and Silver salmon. The Coho (silver) run is both the busiest time of the year for us here and the latest run in the state. This association allows for the best of both ocean and river fishing in one destination, giving anglers a full week to be filled with fishing adventures of all kinds! While we don’t offer drift boats or freshwater guides, we can help point you in the right direction.
Beyond Fishing

About Captain Scott Chadwick
In October of 2022, Captain Scott Chadwick, founder of Yakutat Charters passed away after a 2 year battle with cancer. He was a remarkable man; a visionary, whose creativity and intelligence coupled with his mechanical aptitude and fishing savvy enabled him to build a thriving business in the remote village of Yakutat. His passion for excellence did not go unnoticed. Over time, he amassed a large and extremely loyal client base which necessitated the addition of more boats to accommodate his ever-growing number of booking requests. He was known and respected for being ethical, conservation minded, and for putting the needs of his clients first. Many of his long–time clients as well as other local business operators, were fortunate enough to be counted among his closest friends. The loss is great and his presence will forever be missed.
His final wishes were that his “life’s work would continue in some capacity for the benefit of his clients, his captains, and the community of Yakutat.” He had begun to have conversations with a few of his “favored captains” about purchasing boats and associated permits. Most of the boats have been sold off and while they are staying local, only one of the boats will remain under the Yakutat Charters banner.
Per Scott’s wishes, the Sea Wolf has been purchased by Captain Luke Scatterelli. The Sea Wolf has long been the pride of the fleet, as it was custom built by Captain Scott himself! CaptLuke is the most tenured captain to have worked for Scott and Yakutat Charters. Like Scott, providing excellent service while putting forth unquestionable effort is second nature to Luke. And likewise, he does it all while having FUN! Scott would be proud knowing that Luke will be carrying on the legacy that he worked so hard to build.
On behalf of Scott’s Yakutat friends and Luke the Dog, Thankyou for your patronage and for helping keep Scott’s memory alive.
